Retirement Security Coalition Encouraged by House Legislation; Urges Bicameral Solution This Year

Washington, D.C. – The Retirement Security Coalition today released the following statement after House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal introduced legislation to address the multiemployer pension crisis in America:

“The Retirement Security Coalition is encouraged the U.S. House of Representatives has taken these first, immediate steps to address multiemployer pension plan failure in 2021. Chairman Scott correctly noted that ‘time is running out for Congress to act.’ Americans cannot afford inaction. If we are to protect the hard-earned retirement futures of millions of Americans, including seniors and essential blue-collar workers, Congress must follow the lead of Chairmen Scott and Neal. By coming together on a bicameral solution, our leaders can return hope to communities dually devastated by the pension crisis and the pandemic.”
