The Retirement Security Coalition Calls on All Lawmakers to Work Together to Craft a Bipartisan Solution to the Multiemployer Pension Crisis

WASHINGTON – The Retirement Security Coalition released the following statement from co-chairs Former Speaker John Boehner and Former Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Joe Crowley in response to today’s rally calling for a solution to the multiemployer pension plan crisis:

“Today’s rally that brought retirees from across the country demonstrates how important this issue is to hard working Americans – coal miners, truck drivers, electricians and others that depend on a pension. Their future is at stake and lawmakers must reach a bipartisan agreement to prevent their retirement plans from running out of money. We commend the retirees who traveled to Washington D.C. to elevate the urgency for a solution to today’s multiemployer pension crisis – their voices need to be heard.

“From New York to Ohio, many retirees and workers are already feeling the effects of their failing multiemployer pension plans. With billions of retirement dollars on the line, the stability of the U.S. economy at risk, and tens of thousands of jobs in jeopardy. The time is now for lawmakers on both sides to pass bipartisan legislation that can be signed into law this year.”
