Washington, DC – The Retirement Security Coalition today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved H.R. 397, the Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act, legislation aimed at addressing the multiemployer pension crisis in America:

“We are encouraged that the U.S. House has taken this first step to address the multiemployer pension problem in a serious way, but there is more work to be done. Now, the U.S. Senate must get to work on its solution because Americans cannot afford inaction. If we want to protect the hard-earned retirement futures of millions of Americans, both sides of Congress must come together this year on a bipartisan, bicameral compromise and courageously lead our country to fix the multiemployer pension plan crisis.”

Comprised of a diverse group of employers, labor unions, and policy experts dedicated to finding a common-ground solution to the multiemployer pension crisis, the Retirement Security Coalition is urging a bipartisan compromise to reinvigorate the multiemployer pension plan system in America.
